Pratt & Whitney JT8D Turbine Disc — Herencia Aérea · Aviation Heritage Collection
A work of rigorous mathematical symmetry and maximum material density that reveals the heart of jet propulsion. This large-format piece of mechanical archaeology is an original rotor disc from the compressor of a Pratt & Whitney JT8D turboprop engine, the legendary powerplant that drove icons of commercial aviation such as the Boeing 737-200 and the McDonnell Douglas DC-9.
Originally manufactured in high-purity titanium to withstand the extreme thermal stresses and centrifugal forces of transonic flight, this component, one meter in diameter, has been rescued and has undergone a painstaking restoration process in our workshop. Every surface, fitting slot and blade has been hand-treated to a mirror-polished finish that heightens the physical complexity of the metal. Conceived by Estilo Hangar as a wall installation or a large-format freestanding sculpture, the disc stands as an absolute statement of industrial design and institutional collecting, designed to preside over senior-executive corporate settings, entrance halls or avant-garde residences.
